Ryder Cup 2025: Bethpage Black
In September 2025, the Ryder Cup arrives at Bethpage Black, the crown jewel of American public golf. Known for its legendary difficulty and the iconic warning sign at the first tee: “The Black Course is an extremely difficult course which we recommend only for highly skilled golfers”. Bethpage is a stage built for drama.
Why Bethpage Black Matters
A.W. Tillinghast designed three courses at Bethpage (Black, Red, and Blue). In 1936, Joseph Burbeck, along with the help of A.W. Tillinghast - known affectionately (and sometimes fearfully) as “Tilly the Terror” - designed Bethpage Black. Tillinghast believed in testing every club in a player’s bag, and nowhere is that more apparent than here: narrow fairways, punishing bunkers, elevated greens, and a routing that never lets you breathe.
For New Yorkers and traveling golfers alike, Bethpage is a pilgrimage. Unlike many Ryder Cup venues tucked behind private gates, this one belongs to the people. It is the people’s major venue, and in 2025, it becomes the people’s Ryder Cup.
Team USA: Led by Keegan Bradley
Earlier this year, Keegan Bradley was announced as the U.S. captain - a fiery competitor whose energy fits Bethpage’s raucous atmosphere. Now, with the full Team USA roster confirmed, anticipation is surging. Bradley will have the chance to rally the American side with the New York crowd behind him, where chants and cheers will feel more like a sporting coliseum than a golf course.

A Legacy of Tillinghast
At Tilly Golf, we take inspiration from A.W. Tillinghast’s nickname, “Tilly the Terror.” His designs were meant to test the bold, punish the reckless, and reward the creative. Bethpage Black is perhaps the purest expression of that philosophy.
The Ryder Cup will bring Tillinghast’s legacy to a global audience, reminding fans that golf’s roots are about challenge, character, and courage - values that drive our brand and our apparel.
What to Expect in 2025
-
Unmatched Atmosphere: The New York crowds at Bethpage will be passionate. Expect Ryder Cup intensity like never before.
-
A Brutal Test: This isn’t a birdie-fest. Players will need grit as much as talent.
Final Thoughts
The 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black isn’t just another event - it’s a celebration of golf’s spirit, designed by one of the greatest architects, embraced by the people, and contested on one of the most intimidating stages in the game.
For us at Tilly Golf, it’s also personal. We’re proud to carry forward the legacy of A.W. Tillinghast in our name, our designs, and our ethos.
Come September 2025, the world will once again see why Bethpage Black is the crown jewel of public golf - and why Tillinghast’s vision still reigns supreme.
